By the kitchen window, spent shell casings sat in a glass case, tucked just behind the teapot. A rusty combat helmet lay on the lawn, weathered by time. Barbed wire still lined the window—a silent reminder of the past. The place was calm, almost cocoon-like, but every corner spoke of history. I’m a history buff, and I was completely in my element. The hosts were welcoming, serving breakfast before we left. We said our goodbyes, already knowing—we’d be back."

"Lots of space for a great price. We were early in the season so some of the local facilities weren't open. However, the quietness suited our short stay. Each plot was shaded by planting. The double glazing and blackout curtains meant that we slept well."
