"The location. Ideal for the intercity bus. As a back packers stay it was colourful, friendly and Chris, the on duty person as we arrived, was very informative. The kitchen was large, well organised and used. We love the fact that all recycling options had well labled bins. Very clean. Powerful shower."

"Steep stairs to access the accomodation, but we are rather older than the usual back packers. Only one central light and light switch."

"Backpackers is around 2 bars/restaurants so you can hear the noise outside on friday/sat, although it's not as rowdy as you would think. They do send you a message warning you about this so you are aware."

"Within the city, walking distance to the library, museum, mall and boardwalk. Lots of eatery and shops. Family room good size can sleep 5 people comfortably. Staff very helpful and accommodating."

"Outdated, good value for money. Bring your own soap and shampoo. Noisy at night due to bar next door. Didn't bother me as much as I was tired and fell asleep. TV reception not so good."

"I just stayed at Ariki Backpacker (26 Jan 2026) and it was NEXT LEVEL! 🤩 The cleanliness was top-notch, exceeded my expectations. The girl at reception was an absolute sweetheart - super kind, humble, and showed me all the facilities. Made my stay so much better! 5 stars from me! Would definitely recommend and stay again 😊"

He is the most accommodating host I have ever encountered; he ensures your comfort and safety are top priority. If you are looking for affordable, comfortable and meet all types of people from all walks of life then this is perfect accommodation."

"Location is in the center of town so be ready to hear late night karaoke, which isn't a bad thing could just go down and join :). If you want a place close to the action then again, this spot is perfect, if you're looking for peace and quiet then maybe elsewhere will suit, there is never a dull moment here and I got to meet so many lovely souls."
