This historical Arabian-style building is located in the UNESCO-listed town of Lamu. It is less than 300 metres from the seafront and 3 km from the white sandy beach. The bright rooms at Subira House have either a patio or a balcony and some have sea views and free Wi-Fi. Every room has a fan, a seating area, and a dining area. Guests can enjoy a free buffet breakfast each day at the restaurant. The restaurant serves a range of healthy organic cuisine, with packed lunches and room service available upon request. This eco-friendly property has a library and a garden with sunny terrace, and offers massages and babysitting services. Activities in the area include Snorkeling , whale-shark swimming, canoeing, yoga and a day trip to our Perma culture farm. The Lamu Airport is less than 3 km from the property, but can only be accessed by boat.

"Casa del governatore restaurata da una coppia di svedesi, molto attenti ai dettagli e alla conservazione della struttura originale. Arredo curato e personale attento al cliente. Cuoca ottima sia per come cucina sia per come sa presentare i piatti. La casa è molto bella, dal fascino antico . Ospita anche artisti e ha un laboratorio per la produzione di opere d’arte"

"La casa è molto molto bella. Ristrutturata bene mantenendo le caratteristiche del tempo. Molti gli spazi comuni a disposizione. La padrona di casa è il personale sono gentilissimi. La posizione è ottima se si vuole essere nel cuore della città vecchia alle spalle del forte. Colazione e cena buone con prodotti naturali fatti in casa."
"La camera era caldissima, accettabile con i ventilatori in funzione ma, purtroppo, manca spesso la corrente (almeno nelle due notti in cui ho soggiornato) e diventa difficile dormire. Personalmente ho trovato difficile accettare il tipo di wc, che avevo sottovalutato leggendo la descrizione. La colazione su un piacevole terrazzo era fastidiosa a causa delle mille mosche! Tutto questo non vuole essere una critica alla struttura ma mi sembra corretto che si conoscano anche i lati negativi di una casa altrimenti affascinante. Forse un generatore di corrente ed un normale wc renderebbero tutto perfetto."

"My room was lovely but someone who is very sensitive to heat may prefer to request a room on the shadier side of the house. Great location in the heart of the old town but beware that this means you will hear the call to prayer emanating from nearby mosques- ear plugs may help!"

"This is such a special place. Besides the history and beauty of the house, the staff and owners of Subira are exceptional. They went out of their way to make one feel welcome and make the stay a wonderful experience."

"Paul and Christine were amazing hosts, also the other staff were more then amazing, such friendly people, it felt like a home far away from home. Also the hotel itself is beautiful, rooms are nice and comfortable, location is perfect and the people of Lamu are so friendly. We will be back someday for sure."
